Riverdale Raiders

2016 record: 12-12 (lost to Lithonia in Sweet 16)

Head Coach: Derick Powell

Key Players: Sr. Cyrus Richards, Jr. Marcus Cain, So. Josh Smith

Season Outlook: The Raiders had a breakout season last year, advancing to the Sweet 16 in Class AAAAA before falling to Lithonia. Riverdale will need to replace several key players, including First Team All-County selection Jonathan Foster, this season.

“We lost quite a few seniors but we have a few young guys that I am really excited about getting the opportunity to coach,” head coach Derick Powell said. “A few moved in and we had a few come up through the program over the years. Even though we lost some experience, I think the basketball talent as a whole is better overall. It will give me a lot of leeway to do more things this year.”

Powell will count on senior Cyrus Richards, last year’s team MVP, to lead the offense from the point guard position. Junior Marcus Cain will be asked to replace Foster’s near-20 point per game average.
