Rising senior Nia Cole has been selected as a 2017 Semper Fidelis All-American.
Proudly presented by the United States Marine Corps, the Semper Fidelis All-American Program selects high school students for the program based on moral character, academic performance and athletic ability.
Most critically, nominees must demonstrate a fighting spirit that improves the lives of their fellow citizens. Ninety-six students in the Unites States where selected for this prestigious program.
Cole is the reigning three-time Clayton County Public Schools girl’s golf individual champion. She was the first female golfer to qualify for the GHSA golf playoffs in Riverdale High School’s history. Nia is a member of both the competition and varsity cheerleader squads, where she serves as the team captain.
She was selected by the Atlanta Falcons as a Power Player during 2016. The Power Player award, sponsored by Georgia Power, recognizes male and female high school varsity sports athletes from around the state of Georgia that demonstrate strong leadership skills both on and off the field.
Ms. Cole volunteers with the Clayton County Public School Library, Riverdale Recreation Center, Brighter Voices and Speech Languages, Georgia State University – Benhem Law Camp, First Baptist Church, Jonesboro and Girl Scouts of America.
Nia has a 3.7 G.P.A. and is enrolled in a dual college enrollment program at Clayton State University.
As a celebration of her success, Nia will receive an all-expenses paid trip to attend the Battles Won Academy, held in Washington D.C. July 13 – 17, 2017.
She will participate in an immersive Marine Corps experience, team-building outings and sporting events and behind-the-scenes tours of our Nation’s Capital.
Ms. Cole will also have the opportunity to network with an elite circle of speakers from all walks of life and various industries who will share their inspiring stories of fighting and winning battles in their own lives.
In recognition of the importance of building a support system to enable the success of the next generation, each All-American will be given the opportunity to invite a mentor to attend the event as well. Nia’s father Mr. Gregory Allen Cole, Jr. will serve as her mentor during the event.
Finally, becoming a Semper Fidelis-All American will make Nia eligible for select scholarship opportunities only available to program participants.
